About the Programmes
Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) is a well-functioning tool to facilitate neighboring countries Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway in finding better solutions for business development, innovation, education, environmental protection, cultural activities, transport connections of bordering regions, and much more.
The Programme contributes to economic and social development, mitigate common challenges and promote mobility among actors of regional relevance to further improve cross-border cooperation and the sustainable prerequisites of the Programme area. Eligible programme area consist of the core regions South Karelia, South-Savo and Kymenlaakso in Finland and St. Petersburg and Leningrad region in Russia. Adjoining areas are Uusimaa, Päijät-Häme, North-Savo, North Karelia and Republic of Karelia. In addition to these, cities of Turku and Moscow may participate as a major economic and cultural center. Programme is offering funding in four thematic objectives.

The project’s objective is to take steps forward to improve the environmental state in a sub-area of the Gulf of Finland by combining scientific and societal actions in the surrounding area.
Green ReMark project aims at opening new attractive opportunities for the growth of the 'green economy', enlarging related market conditions and rising the openness of the regional power grid for new consumers and producers of green energy – the energy from renewable sources with the minimal environmental impact during all stages of the energy life cycle (production, transmission, storage and use).
RFLSP large infrastructure project’s objective is the development of the life science SMEs’ access to the modern life science research and production capacities by internationalization and commercialization of related solutions.
"Karelia" CBC Programme implements activities that contribute to regional development with activities that have a clear cross-border dimension and cooperation nature. The overall Programme objective is to make the Programme area attractive for people to work and live and for businesses to locate and operate. Programme area includes three regions of Finland (Kainuu, North Karelia, Oulu region) and the Republic of Karelia in Russia. The adjoining regions are Lapland, South Karelia, North Savo and South Savo in Finland and Leningrad, Murmansk and Archangelsk in Russia. The Programme supports cooperation projects in four thematic objectives.

The project`s objective is to develop innovative model of the forest nursery business based on the best Finnish practices in the Republic of Karelia. At the same time, the transfer of nursery technologies will open principally new markets for small and medium nurseries in Finland since they will have a chance to closely consider practical perspectives of this business in Russia.
Green Solutions for ature Protected Areas
The project aims at finding and testing eco-friendly (green) energy supply and waste utilization solutions at the territories of National Parks and Nature Reserves.
The implementation of the large infrastructure project activities in the field of water supply and sanitation should significantly improve the ecological situation in the city of Sortavala. The project intends to build up new water intake and pumping stations for distributing of the tap water through the water supply system. Project includes activities for closing of two untreated wastewater discharge points in the central part of Sortavala city on the shore of Ladoga’s bay Lappajärvi.
The overall aim of the Programme is to promote a viable economy and attractiveness of the region, where inhabitants and visitors come to enjoy the arctic nature and where natural resources are used in a sustainable way. The area covered by the Kolarctic CBC Programme comprises Lapland in Finland, Norrbotten in Sweden, Finnmark, Troms and Nordland in Norway and the Murmansk Region, the Arkhangelsk Region and the Nenets Autonomous District in Russia. Adjoining regions: Oulu Region, Västerbotten, Republic of Karelia and the Republic of Komi. Partners from the adjoining regions and from the major social, economic and cultural centre (city of St. Petersburg) can participate in the Programme implementation as equal partners. The Programme supports cooperation projects in four thematic objectives.

Ecological restauration of Arctic Rivers
The ReArc project focuses on different river basins, ranging from the Nordland region in Norway to the Kola Peninsula in Finland and Russia. The project is aimed at restoring the Arctic rivers of the programme region, including restoring 208 km of waterways, improving their ecological status, restoring 32 destroyed fish spawning grounds, as well as removing 33 migration barriers for fish and other organisms, etc.
The project "BRIDGE: Development of employment opportunities in the Barents region" will increase the employment opportunities of university graduates, bridge the gap between the needs of small and medium-sized businesses and the competencies of students. As a result, graduates will master new skills and which will ease a job search process.
The aim of the project is to develop a biotechnological method for the rehabilitation of oil-contaminated coastal zones based on natural processes of self-healing in the environment. Biotechnology, which waдвдs created within the framework of the project, is based on three components: microorganisms that decompose oil; sorbents consisting of organic and mineral substances; and plants that contribute to the restoration of vegetation in oil-contaminated areas.
